Tokoname, a traditional pottery producing region in Japan with a history spanning over 1,000 years, is home to the six ancient kilns of Japan: Tokoname ware, Echizen ware, Seto ware, Shigaraki ware, Tamba ware, and Bizen ware.
Teapot making in Tokoname began in the mid-Edo period. Later, the technique of making "Shudei" (red clay) teapots was established, and together with Shudei teapots, Tokoname has led the way in Japanese teapot making. Today, it is known internationally as "TOKONAME," a major teapot producing region, a rarity in the world.
* Tokoname ware, known for its teapots, is said to produce tea with a mellow and delicious taste, without bitterness, due to the high iron content in the clay.
* Tokoname teapots are made using simple techniques called "Sekiki" (stoneware) and "Yakishime" (high-fired firing), where the clay is fired at high temperatures until hard. The more you use it, the more it will develop a beautiful sheen and a deeper, richer appearance.
* Tokoname ware teapots are made by sanding and fitting each lid and teapot body together, so there is no wobbling of the lid. A faint sanding mark remains.
[How to wash a "Ceramesh" teapot]
After using a "Ceramesh" teapot, rinse it with water or hot water. We do not recommend using detergent or bleach.
Use a soft brush for the tea strainer and the inside of the spout. After washing, dry it thoroughly.
Soaking in water or hot water is effective for removing tea stains. We also recommend boiling the teapot regularly for sterilization.
(Regarding the use of Ceramesh teapots)
The ceramic tea strainer "Ceramesh" was developed to allow you to enjoy the natural taste of tea, adhering to traditional ceramic tea utensils without relying on metal tea strainers. Depending on the type of tea leaves, the strainer may clog or small pieces of tea leaves may mix into the tea. While it's fine to eat the tea leaves that pass through, if you prioritize "tea straining function," please choose a teapot with a stainless steel strainer. *Ceramic strainer teapots ("Ceramesh") are not foolproof; they can clog. If clogging occurs, please try using a different type of tea leaf.
