Elton John's landmark album "Madman" is being reissued to celebrate its 50th anniversary!
"Madman," a masterpiece that spawned hits like "Sweet Dancer (For Maxine)" and "The Life of Levon," was Elton's fourth studio album, released just two years after his debut. It also laid the foundation for a decade of prolific work.
Recorded at Trident Studios in central London in February and August 1971, this album marks the first to feature all five members of the legendary Elton John Band (Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnston, and Ray Cooper). Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman also appears on this album, contributing Hammond organ on three tracks.
"Madman [50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition]" is a two-CD set featuring the original album, remastered in 2016 by Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Bob Ludwig. CD 2 also features demos and rare recordings. It includes a foreword by Elton and Bernie, excerpts from a historical commentary featuring photos and interviews with those involved in the production of "Madman," as well as a 40-page booklet featuring photos and artwork of memorabilia from the "Rocket Archive."
★SHM-CD format only for the Japanese edition.
