Cool, clean and minty-green, this wintergreen essential oil has the bright familiarity of chewing gum, toothpaste and old-fashioned sweets. It is steam distilled from Gaultheria procumbens, giving a crisp aromatic oil for diffuser rituals, scent blending and carefully diluted body blends.
Cool, brisk scent character
The first impression is sharp and refreshing, with a sweet green edge rather than a soft floral note.
Its scent feels clear and lively in the air, especially when you want a room to feel freshly reset.
That recognisable wintergreen note carries a clean, almost candy-like brightness without becoming sugary.
In blends, it is best used sparingly. Its character is strong, direct and easy to notice.
The dark bottle keeps the look simple, practical and apothecary-like.
The wintergreen plant and its origin
This oil is sourced from China. Wintergreen is used in small amounts for flavouring sweets, toothpaste and chewing gum.
Where wintergreen sits in scent culture
Wintergreen has a distinctive place in everyday aroma memory. It does not have the softness of lavender or the resinous depth of frankincense; it is cleaner, sharper and more immediately recognisable. In modern aromatherapy and perfumery-style blending, it is often treated as a bold accent rather than a quiet background note. A small touch can give a blend a cool, green clarity, especially beside woods, citrus notes or other fresh herbal oils.
Using it with care
Add to a diffuser according to your diffuser’s own guidance, keeping the scent light at first. Wintergreen has a strong profile, so it suits a careful hand.
For skin use, dilute well in a carrier oil and patch test before wider application. Do not use essential oils undiluted, do not ingest them, and avoid use during pregnancy, with children, or around pets unless guided by a qualified professional. Keep the bottle closed and stored away from heat and direct light.
