The preparation is an oily liquid. Oil-soluble vitamin C stimulates collagen production in the skin (it has a stronger effect than L-ascorbic acid), thereby improving skin firmness and elasticity. It improves and brightens skin tone, and strengthens and tones blood vessels. Vitamin C activates and enhances many metabolic processes in skin cells, thereby facilitating the healing of wounds and bruises. It is one of the most powerful antioxidants, inhibiting the aging and photoaging processes of the skin. "Traditional" L-ascorbic acid dissolves only in water and is an unstable compound, sensitive to oxidation, UV radiation, and temperature, and penetrates relatively poorly into the deeper layers of the skin (in formulas, it is often used with so-called "promoters"). Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, developed in Japan, is devoid of all these drawbacks. Thanks to its fat solubility, it is easier to use in cosmetic formulas and penetrates significantly more easily through the epidermis into the deeper layers of the skin. Its effects are visible even at low concentrations of 1-2%. Its biggest and probably only drawback is the price, it is the most expensive form of vitamin C. The simplest formulas are an oil serum made from any cosmetic oil enriched with ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, in a ratio of 90 ml of oil to 10 ml of ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate. When used in recommended concentrations, the preparation is safe even for delicate skin, or at least significantly safer than the traditional water-soluble form of vitamin C. Exceeding the recommended concentrations may cause slight redness.
