Today, this delay unit is known as the 'Oil Can Delay,' which features a drum-shaped can filled with oil that rotates via belt drive. It contains a special disc device where the 'charge' of the audio signal is written and read by a rubber wiper called a 'head.' The playback speed is directly linked to the rotation speed of the drum. The oil acts as a protective layer that holds the signal's 'charge' electrons, creating a unique echo effect. It also includes elements of vibrato and slapback delay. The 3 Series 'Oil Can Delay' is a simple and faithful homage to this classic unit.
