Whenever we read about Martyr Bhagat Singh, the immortal son of Mother India, a question always arises: where did he find the inspiration, courage, and strength to do everything he did?
He was not even 24 years old when he was hanged.During his last imprisonment in Lahore (Punjab) Central Jail (19291931), Bhagat Singh extensively read and absorbed the thoughts of great philosophers, thinkers, writers, and leaders regarding freedom, justice, selfrespect, and dignity.
This prison diary is a compilation of his notes in prison based on these.
Bhagat Singh wrote all this to tell Indians what freedom and liberation mean, and how these precious things can be snatched from the ruthless and heartless British, who had reduced Indians to misery and oppression. After Bhagat Singh's execution, this prison diary, along with other belongings of Bhagat Singh, was handed over to his father, Sardar Kishan Singh.
After Sardar Kishan Singh's death, this notebook (along with Bhagat Singh's other documents) passed to his son, Mr.
Kulbir Singh, and after his death, to his son, Mr.
Babar Singh.
Mr.
Babar Singh's dream was that the people of India should also know about this prison diary.
They should know what Bhagat Singh's true thoughts were.
The common people of India should be able to see Bhagat Singh's original handwriting.
After all, he is a hero to people of every caste and religion, the poor, the rich, farmers, laborers, everyone.Bhagat Singh was a passionate revolutionary, with a clear vision and perspective.
He looked to the future.
Indeed, the future was in his very being.
