Product introduction
Popular music in Taiwan began during the Japanese colonial period!
A rare SP sound source from the infancy of Taiwanese pop music made into a CD for the first time in the world!!
From 1895 to 1945, Taiwan was under Japanese rule. There, a branch office of a Japanese record company was established, and many local record companies were born, and many wonderful Taiwanese music was created.
Edison invented the gramophone, Berliner made flat records, and people all over the world were able to listen to a variety of music through machines, but Taiwan was in the infancy of such popular music at the time.
This album is a collection of songs representing Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. It also includes music from indigenous people (expressed as “indigenous people” in Taiwan), which Japanese people at the time were very interested in recording. You can also listen to language materials for learning the Japanese language of the time = Japanese. The pop song “Nozhun Kaze” at the time was so famous that no one knows it in Taiwan even now, and the person who sang this song was Junjun, who was a diva representing this era.
Incidentally, many of the valuable sound sources recorded on this album were recorded in Japan by the singers who crossed the ocean, then pressed in Japan, and the finished records were sent to Taiwan and sold.
Also, musically speaking, many of the songs in this work have Taiwanese elements, and I think it is worth mentioning that elements of Japanese and Western music are added to them, creating wonderful fusion music. It became the root of popular music in Taiwan.
The person who selected songs, provided sound sources, and detailed data this time was Taiwanese musicologist Lin Taiwei. Songs were selected from his huge SP record collection. Incidentally, Hayashi-san wanted people to listen to Taiwan's first pop pop pop song, so he went out of his way to borrow only “Elax Cat March” from an acquaintance.
Mr. Hayashi definitely wanted everyone in Japan to know that during the Japanese colonial period, Taiwanese and Japanese people created and released a number of wonderful music. Then, music critic Motoko Sekiya, who has a close relationship with Hayashi-san and is interested in music from this era, made this CD. Please enjoy Taiwanese music from 80 years ago and the singing voices of the wonderful artists who perform it.
A 40-page booklet full of detailed explanations and data and valuable photos+ 23 Taiwanese songs selected.
