This is a really interesting product. I've tested it in makeshift circuits on the workbench. I know it's designed for 3.5V, but simply using a 9V battery and a 1K resistor to charge a 1000uF capacitor gives a solid spark with a really loud "cracking" sound.. NOTE: Make sure the capacitor cannot deliver more than about 300mA pulse, otherwise you may damage the coil winding. I believe this transformer is intended for intermittent and short-term current. I bought this to use with an oscillator and make a "gas lighter", but I can see it could be used to make a decent self-defense product, but that would be abusing it. More than enough power to flash a xenon tube from 9V, if you're into night photography (or overloading speed cameras ;-). 100% satisfied with this transformer. I can't wind one myself for this price. Very good value for money. /Harry
