The design features seasonal flowers and plants using the traditional Takaoka lacquerware techniques of "raden" and "maki-e." Raden is a technique in which the iridescent pearly part found inside shells such as blue oyster, luminous oyster and white butterfly oyster is cut into various patterns, pasted onto a lacquer base and painted. This paperweight is very beautiful with the sparkling shine of the shells. It has metal inside and is just the right weight for ease of use.
