This book focuses on picture books published in Germany and Japan from the early 19th century through to the 1940s, and through an analysis of the many illustrations featured in these books, it reveals surprising relationships between Western and Japanese illustrations, Grimm's fairy tales and Mori Ogai, and "Hansel and Gretel" and Auschwitz.
