Weeping Cherry Blossoms" is part of our popular Bingata Artist Series. This vibrant piece evokes the joyful arrival of spring.
What is Chū-sen dyeing?
It is a fabric dyeing technique in which a bank of glue is created in the area to be dyed, and the dye is then poured into it.
Though done by hand, it is capable of producing a wide variety of patterns, subtle touches such as small patterns, and unique colors. It is also excellent at expressing three-dimensionality and a sense of calmness by utilizing techniques such as shading.
Another distinctive feature of Chū-sen dyeing is that the dye is applied to both sides, resulting in the same pattern and color on both sides.
Since fabric dyed with Chū-sen dyeing is mostly done by hand, the fibers are less likely to be crushed, the fabric is highly breathable, and the fabric is soft to the touch.
[Bingata Artist Series] We have invited artists of Bingata, a traditional Okinawan (Ryukyu) dyeing style, to provide designs, and we plan and sell tenugui towels dyed using the Chū-sen dyeing technique.
Ryukyu Bingata is a unique dyed fabric native to Okinawa, characterized by vibrant pigment colors that shine under the strong Okinawan sun. Yagisei's Bingata-style Tenugui series features original tenugui hand towels, each designed by a bingata artist using the Okinawan "Bingata" dyeing technique. While the intricate designs are difficult to reproduce using standard chusen dyeing, these hand towels are dyed by skilled artisans, resulting in a unique, multicolored finish.
Enjoy them not only as tenugui, but also as tapestries or table runners for interior decor.
