[Impressive body with striking markings] Group 5 racing, which featured machines based on production cars with modified parts and equipped with powerful engines, was highly popular in the 1970s and 80s. Among them, the Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo is a racing car developed in 1978 by the West German racing team "Zakspeed" for the DRM (German Racing Car Championship). The body, born from thorough wind tunnel testing, is extremely low and wide. The engine is a 1427cc inline 4-cylinder Cosworth BDA. Equipped with a KKK turbocharger, it boasts a maximum output of 375 horsepower. Another feature is its light weight of only 790kg, with most of the body panels made of FRP. Debuting at Hockenheim in the summer of 1978, the Zakspeed Capri achieved its first victory in a sprint race at the Nürburgring in October. The following year, it secured second place in the opening round of the DRM (German Racing Car Championship) and first place in the second round, brilliantly demonstrating its high capabilities.
