Introduction
Four self-selected best-of albums delve into the heart of this solitary virtuoso. ■ Kazuhito Yamashita, Japan's leading classical guitarist. At age 16, he became the youngest winner of the world's three major guitar competitions: Ramirez (Spain), Alessandria (Italy), and Paris (France), a record that remains unbroken. A guitar prodigy with exceptional musicality and virtuosity, he has continued to thrive, devoting himself to international performances and earning rave reviews. ■ Yamashita released his first album on RCA in 1978 at the age of 17 and has released nearly 90 albums to date. Now, at age 60, this series condenses his RCA recordings into four titles and eight albums. ■ Works by Spanish composers are essential for guitar music. Yamashita also featured Sor on his debut album, making it an important part of his own repertoire.
