The giant bird "Toriuma" that supports the lives of the people in "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" has been brought to life as a 3D sculpture!
"Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" is an animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, based on his manga serialized in Monthly Animage.
In the film, after civilization collapses during the "Seven Days of Fire," the Toriuma become an indispensable means of transportation for people in the vast Sea of Corruption and deserts that appear. Takayuki Takeya has recreated the Toriuma as a posable sculpture.
These birds have grown to be larger than humans, losing their ability to fly and developing strong legs, allowing them to gallop like horses, carrying people and cargo. This has led to a symbiotic relationship between humans and birds.
They are also highly intelligent, and are particularly tame and affectionate towards the protagonist Nausicaä, with many scenes depicting their close bond.
The Takeya-style articulated figure captures the distinctive features of the Toriuma, such as its large, bulging beak, long neck, and well-developed legs, in three dimensions. It also incorporates detailed feathers, scales on the legs, claws, ethnic equipment, and adorable eyes and tongue, adding to the overall visual detail.
Furthermore, the figure prioritizes articulation, with 41 points of articulation, a range of motion, and posture-holding ability meticulously refined through trial and error. The result is a figure that can be held and manipulated, recreating scenes from the original manga and animated film.

41 points of articulation throughout the body.
The neck features a joint structure with 9 ball joints, covered by 8 divided feather parts, allowing for free movement of the neck.
This enables a variety of expressions, such as raising the head high as if neighing, or straightening the neck as if sprinting.
Furthermore, the large, bulging beak opens and closes, and a tongue is attached inside.
The legs have 13 points of articulation on each leg, allowing for a variety of poses.
The toes are fully articulated, with the three front toes moving up to the first and second joints, allowing for a full recreation of poses ranging from firmly planting the ground to powerfully kicking off the ground and galloping.
The Toriuma's body is fitted with reins, stirrups, a saddle, and gaiters to protect the legs, each part featuring a different texture.
It can also be combined with the separately sold "Takeya-style Articulated Figure: Tolmekian Armored Soldier," and by replacing the waist joint part, it can be mounted.
A sword with a fan-shaped tip, a dedicated sheath, and a display stand are included for the Tolmekian armored cavalry.
