About Hermes In 2000, Hermes expanded into the clothing segment in China, managed by family member Claude Brouet. That same year, the first John Lobb footwear boutique was also opened in New York. In 2003, Hermes debuted its first haute couture collection for the Fall/Winter 2004-2005 season, along with a controversial range of sophisticated perfumes. After 28 years as head of the company, Jean-Louis Robert Frederic Dumas-Hermes retired in January 2006. Known for his charm and as one of Europe's leading luxury experts, he passed away in 2010 after a long illness. Patrick Thomas, who joined the company in 1989 and worked alongside Jean-Louis, succeeded him, becoming the first non-Hermes to lead the company. Jean-Louis's son, Pierre-Alexis Dumas, and his niece, Pascal Mussard, became co-creative directors.
